Who Run the World Has New Artwork!

There’s a lot that goes into making a podcast. From coming up with the idea, to research, to choosing the right format for the idea, to recording, editing, etc. The list goes on and on, and I could talk about the complexity, intricacy, and importance of each stage for hours. Sorry, podcast nerd party of one here. Today, I want to talk about a stage that not many think about: branding.

Most of you consume your podcasts on your phone, so you know that every audio show comes with it’s own version of a movie poster. Except the podcast movie poster is always square, has to fit on your phone, and has to basically incorporate the essence of your show. What I am trying to say here is, your podcast’s cover photo is important: it’s your best foot forward, it’s what determines your whole show’s branding, it’s what might get people to first click on you show - or not.

Who Run the Show’s journey in creating our artwork was an interesting one. A few sparknotes for you: we had to change designers right before we launched our podcast, we had heated debates about which colors to use, and whether we should have an illustration or not. The process took longer than expected. We ultimately decided to premiere the podcast with a temporary artwork because we were so excited to share our interviews with you. We decided it was better to be flexible and pivot along the way than being held back by a desire to have everything be perfect. Was it the right thing to do? Maybe. Was it the right thing for us? Yes it was. Does it matter at this point? No, not really.

More importantly, we are so happy to announce that our new artwork is here and we love it! We’ll leave you to have your own interpretation of it, but here is a bit of background of how we came up with the style. First and foremost, we wanted to have a typographic image that had the title of the podcast front and center. Second we did not want to use a dominant color that could be ascribed to any gender. Our amazing designer Galina came up with the idea to use yellow, which is a neutral color, and have that envelope the blue, red and pink of the title. Lastly Galina decided to slant the type and frame it in a sort of megaphone shape. This mirrors our mission to share the stories of amazing female leaders with as many people as possible.
